Er du en av dem som går og gleder seg til å se Batman, Wonder Woman og Supermann banke slemminger i «Justice League»?
Du kan antagelig slutte å glede deg.
I hvert fall om anmeldelsene av filmen er noen indikasjon på kvaliteten. Her er det nemlig slakt over (nesten) hele linja.
Owen Gleiberman i Variety er en av de mer positive av anmelderne, men virker først og fremst lettet over at filmen er sånn noenlunde kompetent satt sammen. Han skriver at:
«The film is the definition of an adequate high-spirited studio lark: no more, no less. If fans get excited about it, that may mostly be because they’re excited about getting excited. Yet the movie is no cheat. It’s a tasty franchise delivery system that kicks a certain series back into gear.»
Og at:
«It’s light and clean and simple (at times almost too simple), with razory repartee and combat duels that make a point of not going on for too long.»
Han har forøvrig følgende fine beskrivelse av erkeskurk Steppenwolf og den store trusselen heltene står overfor:
«Steppenwolf, who threatens to achieve total dominion over everyplace and everyone, has gathered three ancient boxes of pulsating energy known as Mother Boxes, and I will spare you their complicated and meaningful backstory to just say: They are boxes. Bursting with light. And great power.»
Dårlig skurk
Tar man en tur over til Uproxx og anmelder Mike Ryan, derimot, da seiler «Justice League»-skuta med ett i røffere sjø.
Uthevet sitat:
«I am legitimately bummed out about how much I disliked Justice League.»
For det første forstår ikke Ryan hvorfor man har valgt Steppenwolf som den store skurken.
«A villain so few non-DC readers know that there’s an elaborate exposition, then a flashback scene, just to explain who Steppenwolf is and why’s he so mad. Of all the bad villains in superhero movies, Steppenwolf is easily the worst in recent memory.»
For ikke å snakke om klossete dialog, tonnevis med eksposisjon og merkelige tonskifter som ser ut til å ha kommet fra da Joss Whedon måtte ta over regissørstolen fra Zack Snyder. Og datagrafikk, da. Så mye datagrafikk.
«We finally see all of these characters together in a live-action movie and they immediately start fighting an endless army of CGI Parademons (Batman’s role is to drive around and shoot Parademons with his Batmobile machine gun), under a CGI sky, inside some sort of CGI warehouse, in CGI Russia. My gosh, there’s CGI corn in this movie. CGI corn! Couldn’t they have gone to Kansas for one day?»
Ryan mener riktignok at Henry Cavill løfter deler av filmen, men selv om han finner elementer som lover godt for DC-fremtiden er han i sum temmelig skuffet.
Peter Bradshaw i The Guardian er heller ikke nådig. Han mener filmen har de samme troverdighetsproblemene som «Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice» og nøyer seg med to av fem mulige stjerner.
Som Ryan tror også Bradshaw regissørbyttet har skadet filmen.
«It’s an unhappy state of affairs that may account for the film’s tendency to shapelessness. Or this may have been a function of the ensemble structure and an uncertain handling of Batman’s new, more respectable and collegial role within the League.»
Bradshaw trekker fram Jason Momoas og Ezra Millers rolleprestasjoner som morsomme og Gal Gadots Wonder Woman som oppløftende, mens en av filmens viktigste rollefigurer får på pukkelen.
«But Ben Affleck is unrelaxed and ill-at-ease in the role of Batman/Bruce, unconvincing in both the bat armour and the three-piece suit of the wealthy plutocrat. “What’s your superpower?” asks The Flash and Bruce replies: “I’m rich.” It feels a bit late for this film to have cottoned on to a daringly heretical Batman joke that people have been making for years. Really, Affleck spreads a pall of dullness over the film.»
Pliktløp
Todd McCarthy i The Hollywood Reporter leverer en av de mest brutale anmeldelsene og konstaterer at det virker som det var et rent pliktløp å lage filmen – og at det dermed også blir et rent pliktløp å sitte gjennom den.
«Garishly unattractive to look at and lacking the spirit that made Wonder Woman, which came out five months ago, the most engaging of Warner Bros.’ DC Comics-derived extravaganzas to date, this hodgepodge throws a bunch of superheroes into a mix that neither congeals nor particularly makes you want to see more of them in future. Plainly put, it’s simply not fun.»
Collider-anmelder Matt Goldberg mener i likhet med mange av de andre anmelderne at filmen er bedre enn «Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice» – uten at det på noen måte betyr at den er bra – og gir karakteren D+.
«There’s no time or effort put towards character building, giving the team a personality, crafting themes, or challenging expectations. Justice League’s most impressive feat is that it doesn’t completely fall apart before your eyes.»
Vi får runde av med Telegraph-anmelder Robbie Collin og hans enstjerners anmeldelse, som påpeker at filmen mislykkes i å rette opp i alle feilsteg fra tidligere DC-filmer.
«Instead, it feels like a sheepish feature-length retraction of the franchise to date. It’s consistently embarrassing to watch, and features plot holes so yawningly vast they have a kind of Grand Canyon-like splendour: part of you wants to hang around to see what they look like at sunset.»
